Two weeks ago British Telecom (BT) extended free weekend calls to its 10.8 million BT Option 1 customers. Free are all calls to UK landlines (numbers beginning 01, 02 and 03) lasting up to an hour from midnight on Friday to midnight on Sunday. If you already use BT to make calls you don't need to do a thing as free calls are automatically included.

Here are the new names and prices:

Darmowe są rozmowy telefoniczne na brytyjskie numery stacjonarne (numery zaczynające się 01, 02 oraz 03) trwające do godziny, wykonane od soboty do niedzieli włącznie. Jeśli jesteś abonentem BT nie musisz nic robić, by korzystac z oferty, ponieważ oferta ta jest automatycznie uruchomiona wszystkim abonentom BT Option 1.

The BT announcement had a nasty sting in its tail, Niko. BT’s monthly line rental charge has risen by 75 pence – an increase of 7%.
Many of the BT customers that will be affected by this price increase only want the broadband service. BT should not be allowed to impose big price rises on people who do not even want to use their phone service but only have broadband access. Why should people be stopped from taking advantage of great phone deals offered by companies like Vonage? The insistence by BT that customers pay for a phone line rental that they do not actually want should be looked at by Ofcom.
